The Szamóca Gardening School for children - was launched in 2012 . We undertake the environmental education of children by practical gardening programs, innovative teaching methods, experience-based learning (learning by doing ) and player education ( teaching by playing ). Our innovative educational program was awarded in 2012 by Climate KIC Central Hungary and the Hungarian Innovation Office In 2013, 850 children participated in the 50 pilot programs. In cooperation with the ELTE Füvészkertért Foundation from 2014 we announced regular programs in the Botanical Garden in Budapest on kid’s klub for children ages 3-10 years and workshops for groups from kindergartens, and schools.
The Szamóca Gardening School for children aims: to change the philosophy of children – and with their intermediation the philosophy of their parents - with playful gardening, in order to create a greener, more environmentally way of life, where they value the organic vegetables from the backyard, produced with their work and where they enjoy the creation from grass, wood, flowers, and recycled materials.
We make them aware of the potential opportunities in their everyday world: how to create a balcony or windowsill kitchen garden, greener ways to conjure a bleak wall or, how to establish a colorful flower garden in the dusty courtyard of the school. We introduce them to the recycling mysteries: how to create a simple creative works from wastes which usually are disposed.
All schools and kindergartens has a patch of land where children can garden where they can experience the process by which from a seed will be a grown plant and this ends up like food on their table.
The main objective of Szamóca (Little strawberries) project is to provide children a great experience of gardening: how to create garden components from grass, tree, flower and recyclable items.
The practical playgroups operated by the „Szamóca method” – motivate the „little strawberries” to protect nature and their fragile environment, nurture healthier and think creative.
We published books, articles and several on-line platforms of gardening with kids, and a web shop that can provide itemized books and other products in the specific field. Our activities have potential community-building impact. Common gardening is a perfect way of team-building.
